Water Leak Detection with Noise Correlation

1, 2, 3 Easy!

1. Place the magnetic microphones on the hydrants and plug the microphones into the transmitters. The transmitters automatically turn on and automatically set the proper sensitivity levels.

2. Measure the distance between the hydrants and enter the pipe data (length, size, material).

3. Select "Start", wait about 30 seconds and correlator displays the distance from each microphone to the leak.

Water leak noise correlation listens to water leak noises and calculates the distance to the leak.

How it works:
A leak in a pipe under pressure creates noise that travels through the pipe walls. The noise is detected at two separate points, (water valves, hydrants, meters) by highly sensitive microphones. The leak noise takes longer to travel to the microphone furthest from the source. Using the pipe diameter, pipe material and pipe length, the exact leak position can be calculated by the SeCorr® 08.

Water Leak Correlator SeCorr 08 Highly sensitive Piezo accelerometers record noises in the frequency Leak correlator microphone ranges of approx. 1 to 10,000 Hz. A range of adapters enables connection to a wide variety of measuring points. Hydrophones directly pick up the leak noise from the water, expanding the leak Correlator hydrophones, improved distance detecting range up to 1000 feet in all types of pipe. This offers a considerable improvement of the location range, especially with correlations on plastic pipes. As soon as the microphones receive the leak noise the signal is automatically amplified to the optimum level and transmitted digitally to the SeCorr® 08.

Both pieces of information are analyzed and processed by the SeCorr® 08. Utilizing 500mW transmitters signal transmission is clear and strong. Even if the radio transmitter is located within buildings or behind cars or trees correlation can be carried out successfully.

The Sewerin SeCorr 300 all digital water leak correlator locates some leaks that are so quiet that the can not even be heard with a leak detector directly on the pipe.

Digital Water Leak Noise Correlator microphone collects the sound signals and converts them to a digital signal in the microphone eliminating all other signal noises from the entire rest of the system including the microphone cables, transmitters, radio signal transmission, receiver and processing. The Sewerin SeCorr 300 Digital Water Leak Noise Correlator produces clearer results especially in plastic pipes where the signals are weaker. The digital leak correlator locates quieter and leaks at greater distances than analog or analog/digital water leak correlators.

The receiver connects to most computers via a USB port to correlate and display leak results.

Low frequency microphones for plastic pipes and higher frequency microphones for metallic are both integrated into the Sewerin microphones so only one set is needed to purchase or use..

The RT300 transmitter mounts on a tripod for a transmission range of up to 1000 meters. If the radio transmitter's range is not enough for successful correlation, the noise is stored in the transmitter memory for 40 minutes of recordings, then transmitted when the radio connection is re-established.

The microphone holder allows the tripod and microphone to be carried in one piece to the site and folds fit in the correlator case.

The user listens to the leak noise through high quality headphones, allowing control of the leak noise volume leak noise filter.

Bright stripes and LEDs identify each transmitter and add safety even at night.
